Next Generation Data Center Network, Centralized Gateway or Distributed Gateway?
The conversation about the new architecture of data center networks is heating up as software-defined networks (SDN) and open networks continue to gain popularity. The main focus now is on where the new data center network gateway should be deployed.
Currently, distributed gateways are more widely used in data centers due to their adaptability to network isolation and management in a variety of scenarios, including multi-tenancy, virtualization, and cloud computing. This enhances network flexibility and reliability. Additionally, SDN technology enables distributed gateways to perform functions like dynamic service links, traffic scheduling, and load balancing. However, centralized gateway designs, such as using the traditional three-tier architecture design, are still common in some more traditional data centers. The upside of using centralized gateways is that they are easy to deploy, can handle large amounts of traffic, and are easy to manage and maintain.
